Sara Jane Short

Sara "Jane" Short, 90 of Columbus, Georgia died Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday March 17, 2016 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL. Rev. Bob Hawkins will officiate. Serving as pall bearers will be her grandsons. A private entombment will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Short was born March 4, 1926 in Phenix City, Alabama; daughter of the late Sylvester and Rose Shell Wall. She was retired from the City of Columbus and was a member of Cascade Hills Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. Short and her step-son, Bruce Short.

Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl Hoffman and husband Mike of Phenix City, AL, Cindy Whatley and husband Danny of Columbus, GA, step-son, David Short and wife Lynn of Florida, daughter-in-law, Beverly Short of Tennessee, brothers, Barry Wall and wife Betty, Larry Wall and wife Beverly of Phenix City, AL, grandchildren, Tammy Causey and husband Eric, Shannon Jordan and husband Bill, Shawn Whatley and wife Sommer, Cody Whatley and wife Krystle, Michael Short and wife Molly, Brad Short and wife Avi; great grandchildren, Tyler, Graycen and Colton Jordan, Savannah and Sierra Whatley, Hunter Knowles, Dakota Whatley, Makinley Owens, Madison and Ethan Causey.
