Thomas H. Burkhart, 73 of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away Tuesday September 5, 2017 at the Columbus Hospice House. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in the Summerville Room at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Burkhart was born February 20, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio; son of the late Denver and Alexceial Lathrop Burkhart. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service and was an avid fan of Amatuer Ham Radio with call sign "KE4KWE" on Ham Radio. He was a member of the East Alabama, Russell County and Columbus Radio Club and loved Auburn Footbal.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Reta Sanders Burkhart of Smiths Station, AL, daughter, Reta Faye Burkhart and husband Brian Johnson of Salem, AL, brother, Marion Burkhart and wife Linda of Westchester, OH, sister, Diana Glinski of Mancelona, MI and nephew, Geoff Burkhart and wife Jacky of Joplin, MO.
