Willie N. Doherty

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 4, 2016 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL. with Rev. Mark Carlock officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mrs.Doherty was born March 18, 1930 in Troy, Alabama; daughter of the late Robert Carter Newsome and Anna Harris Newsome. She was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 3016. She was famous among the neighborhood kids for her Saturday morning pancakes and could play a mean game of dominos.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Daniel Doherty, daughter; Dorothy Marie Faulk, granddaughters, Tonya Doherty, Amber Faulk and Jessica Faulk; sisters, Lucille Taunton and Mary Evans, brothers; George Curry Meredith, David Newsome and Bobby Newsome.

She is survived by her children, William Daniel Doherty, Jr. and wife Sandra of Chesterville, VA, Cheri Doherty Pope and husband Ernest of Phenix City, AL, Judith Lynn Weathers and husband Charles of Phenix City, AL, Robert Michael Doherty and wife Robin of Smiths Station, AL, Dennis Patrick Doherty and wife Elizabeth of Selma, AL, Cynthia Ann Doherty of Phenix City, AL, Thomas Andrew Doherty and wife Theresa of Phenix City, AL, son-in-law, David Earl Faulk of Phenix City, AL and sister-in-law Betty Newsome. She was Granny to 32 grandchildren and Big Granny to 43 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
