Addie Lee Johnson was born in Hooks, Texas on December 1, 1930 to Robert and Ethel Johnson. She completed sixth grade before leaving to care for her younger siblings. Later, she earned her High School Diploma and Associate Degree.

She moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1955 with her Uncles Eddie Vaughn and William Smith. Addie’s work history included housekeeping, health care, and production/assembly positions, retiring in 1992 from Adobe Air Conditioning Company.

She accepted Christ at an early age. As a lifetime member of Amos Metropolitan Church, she served on the Usher Board. Addie’s purpose in life was to provide for her family. She was a strong, independent, progressive Black woman that owned three homes in South Phoenix. She took great pride and commitment to her community by serving as a foster grandparent in 2002. Her hobbies include fishing, gardening, ceramics, family gatherings and traveling, which she enjoyed tremendously.

She is survived by sister Dorothy Lucas and brother Johnnie Johnson from Los Angeles, sister Beverly Milledge of Lancaster, California. She’s survived by six children, Carl Edward Johnson, Minnie Jewell Hall, Agnes Marie McElroy, Ethel Joyce Johnson-Miller, James Leroy Johnson, Robert Michael Johnson, fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Preceded in death are parents Robert and Ethel Johnson, brother Robert Johnson, sisters Pearl Harris, Eddye Taylor, Lottie Johnson, Laura Louise Wyatt.
