December 30, 1932 - February 19, 2026
Alice Baker, 93, of Phoenix, Arizona, went home to be with the Lord on February 19, 2026.
Alice was born in Phoenix, Arizona, the second child to Dutch immigrant parents. Her father lost his battle with tuberculosis when Alice was 18 months old. Despite the hardship the family faced, Alice was raised in a loving home where she learned the virtues of hard work, service to others, a humble spirit, and above all what it meant to live a Christian life, from her mother.
Alice attended Longview School, North High School and Grand Canyon University where she excelled in academics and choral music. After studying elementary education, Alice was the first female graduate to receive an Arizona State Teaching Certificate. She went on to teach kindergarten through 3rd grade students for 35 years in the Madison School District.
Alice had a life-long love for music and service to the Lord. She continued to sing in choirs well into her golden years and spent much of her life serving in church and organizations that benefited Grand Canyon University, the education community, children and senior adults.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Willem and Klaske “Clara” Burghout, brother Fred Burghout, and her loving husband of 67 years, Charles “Charley” Baker. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Baker Apostolides (Steven) nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
