Betty Steele

Elizabeth May Arthur Baugus Steele (Betty) started her new journey in the Lord’s hands on August, 5, 2013. Betty was born in Phoenix, Arizona on September 4, 1922 to Charlotte Claiborne and John Arthur and was their sixth child, three sisters and four brothers.

Betty was known by many names. She was Mom to her sons, Ronnie, John, Philip, and Kenneth. Grandma to Terrie, Debbie (Richard), Christina, Holly, Cindy, Meri (Paul), and Brian. Great Grandma to 19 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Aunt Betty to numerous nieces and nephews. And Betty to her many friends.

Raised in rural Mesa, Arizona, Betty graduated from Phoenix Union High School and soon married Al Baugus. She and Al were married for 50 years until his passing in 1991. Betty was a loyal employee of the Arizona Egg Company until her retirement. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, camping, bird watching, dancing, playing penny Texas Hold Em and visiting with friends and family. The joy of her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren which she could not get enough of. Betty traveled to all of the 50 states and camped at many state and national parks.

Betty married the second love of her life, Jack Steele, in 2006. She and Jack lived in Peoria, Arizona. She and Jack traveled across the country several times, spent many evenings at the Legion Hall, and riding the cart with Jack when he played golf. They had fun together.

Betty lived in the Phoenix area for most of her life. She also lived in Edgewood, New Mexico and Aiken, South Carolina.

Betty was predeceased by her first husband Al Baugus, son Ronnie, parents Charlotte and John, brothers E.J., Vauda, Leonard, Austin and sisters Inez, Pearl, Lorena. She is survived by her husband, sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and very special friend for life, Ione Piles.

Betty will be laid to rest at Resthaven Park next to Al. The family requests no flowers. A donation can be made to your favorite charity in her name. She was a joy to our life and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
