Bobbie Jack Rhymes

Bobby Jack Rhymes, a devoted father, grandfather, and man of faith, was born on June 17, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to Cuen and Eva (Chandler) Rhymes. He was the youngest of thirteen children, a role that shaped his strong sense of family and connection throughout his life.

After graduating from high school, Bobby relocated to El Mirage, Arizona, eventually settling in Phoenix, which he proudly called home. Following a brief time in Los Angeles, he returned to Phoenix where he deepened his faith and became a dedicated member of Second New Salem Baptist Church.

Bobby worked faithfully at Shamrock Dairy, where he spent 32 years as a machine operator. His dedication was unmatched—he never missed a single day of work throughout his entire career. In recognition of his extraordinary commitment, the plant was shut down to celebrate his retirement, an honor that had never been given to any other employee. His strong work ethic and loyalty left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

In 1975, Bobby married the love of his life, Marvella Rhymes, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family, forming a beautifully blended family. Bobby was a proud and devoted father to Eric, Tracey, and Stephanie, and found great joy in helping raise his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A true servant of the Lord, Bobby served as a deacon at both Second New Salem Baptist Church and First Institutional Baptist Church. His faith was the foundation of his life, guiding his actions and his love for others.

Bobby was known for his impeccable style—often considered the best dressed wherever he went—and he took great pride in his appearance. He also had a deep love for cars, especially Cadillacs. In addition to his many passions, Bobby enjoyed traveling, creating lasting memories on trips to Hawaii and through his experiences on cruises with loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marvella Rhymes, and his daughter, Tracey.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Eric (Tanya) Rhymes; his daughter, Stephanie (Anthony) McLean; his sister, Zenobia (Laverne, deceased) Russell; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Affectionately known as “Uncle Bob,” he was truly loved by all of his nieces and nephews, leaving behind cherished memories that will live on for generations.

Bobby Jack Rhymes will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love of family, his sharp sense of style, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 East Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042, US, on May 2, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, followed by the Funeral at the same location from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

Committal will take place at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042, US, on May 2, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
