Climaco Gonzales

July 26, 1944January 18, 2021

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Climaco Gonzales on January 18th, 2021 at Valley Baptist Medical Center – Harlingen.

Climaco exemplified the qualities that we should all strive to have: virtuousness, faith, dedication, and above all, loyalty to his family. He strived to provide a strong dose of happiness in every life he touched. His family extended beyond just his beloved wife of 56 years, five children, twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; he grew to call many in his life family due to his undoubtable selflessness.

He was born July 26th, 1944 to Baltazar and Marcella Gonzales in Winslow, AZ. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School and doubling as a bottle boy at Smitty’s, Climaco demonstrated his willingness to go above and beyond to provide for himself and his family. Working his way up, he became district manager with 25 years of service under his belt. The time spent in the grocery industry began what was to become a lifetime career of success.

Following his success in various retail and grocery stores, Climaco, determined for a place to call his own, founded El Centro Foods in La Feria, TX. This store became his lifeblood for the remainder of his life.

Climaco is survived by his wife (Mary Gonzales); sister (Mary Enriquez); brother (Bernie Gonzales); brother (Freddie Gonzales), and preceded in death by his brother (Jose Gonzales).

Dear Mary and family my condolences and prayers for you during this hard time.
I write this with a heavy heart. Mr. G was a great man. He was very giving and thoughtful person. He was not just my boss he was my friend. One that I knew I could always talk to, ask for advice or to simply pray with. He made my coworkers and I feel like part of the family (El Centro Family). He always looked out for us and for that I'll always be grateful for. El Centro will not be the same without your occasional visits. Thank you Mr. G. You will truly be missed by many. Till we meet again. Love you always.

The simple things
By Jax Gonzales

Such a simple thing
To hear you are gone
A simple thing

As simple thing,
Yet worth so much tears

Yet it seems a simple thing I can’t do
For I can’t cry

It seems such a simple thing
Yet it is so much more
For you are no more

And there are no more simple things
No Barbecues
and more

So Tell me why,
Why I can’t cry?

No Simple fishing trips
No Simple family visits

You don’t tell me to clean out my car
You can’t tell me I can go so far.
Maybe that is why it is so hard

Remembering these simple things
Things I did with you
These simple things
I Cry

Our prayers for comfort are for Mary and the family. Our thoughts and memories of our many adventures with Clim will remain with us until we are with him again, when we are all with Him. Those were special days for us with Clim and Mary , in Phoenix, in Texas, in Italy, and in China. And didn't he look like his grandfather?
God bless you

Dear Mary and Family my condolences to your big loss. Clim was a great man who mentored me back in the 1970’s. I have great memories of hunting trips and fishing trips with Clim when we worked at Smittys. Clim made you feel like family and was always watching you to keep you out of trouble by correcting you before you did wrong. I am sorry that you must continue life without him but remember He has a spot waiting for you Mary when your tour is done here with your Family that needs you now more than ever. May God bless You and may Clim RIP.

No words can express how deeply you will be missed by all. You were many things to many people, but most of all you were a son of God. You ate, breathed and lived your life for the Lord our father. Our sorrow for you is not that you are now with the Lord, but that you will be missed because you were a great influence to every person you met. Your family will miss you dearly and know you are exactly where you need to be. May your family, friends and all that you have touched over your lifetime be lifted up and looked over in this time of need. God bless us all!

I want to express my deepest condolences to all of the Gonzales family. I have worked at El Centro for a long time. I learned a lot from him and the store will never be the same without him around. Outside of work he was a great person always willing to help you in any way he could. I will miss him nagging at me for doing something wrong but I know he was only trying to make learn. I am a better person because of him and I have a great work ethic because of him. Thank you Mr. G. For everything you did for my family. May you rest in peace and much love to your family which is like my own. God bless you all.

My sweet grumpy grandpa I will always miss you. I will miss the look you gave me when you wanted me to “settle down”. I’ll miss you mocking how I cheer. I’ll miss your lectures. Ill miss you making sure I’m on the right track. I’ll miss your smiles when I made you laugh but you weren’t trying to. Ill miss going to the movies to watch some boring action movie.I’ll miss you going to sleep in church. Ill miss your hugs. I’ll miss your presence. I’ll miss how hard you worked. I’ll miss how you were one of the only people to never fail me. Thank you for everything that you did for me. I love you forever.

My uncle Clim was a pillar of the Egurrola family, always there to jump in and help. He encouraged and pushed others to realize the importance of family. He was a man of faith and had a deep sense of generosity and care for others. He loved my aunt Mary so much. He was so proud of all his children and loved getting them all together. He invested in others not just financially but emotionally-wow, I am going to miss you so much, Tio. We’ll see you in heaven. I know you and my dad, Rodney are having a great reunion!
