

Dorothy graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1945 before attending Clark University in Atlanta, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in 1949. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she embodied the values of scholarship, service, and sisterhood throughout her life.
In 1953, Dorothy moved to Los Angeles, where she met and married Walter Cunningham. After the birth of their daughter, Adrienne, the couple moved to Phoenix, Arizona. There, Dorothy dedicated 30 years to shaping young minds as a schoolteacher, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.
Beyond her career, Dorothy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved arts and crafts and working on puzzles, an activity that reflected her keen intellect and patience. She was an avid sports fan.
She was also a dedicated Century Club member of First Institutional Baptist Church.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ida Washington and Carrie Brantley, her sister Ella Jane Robinson, her brother Trubbie Brantley, her husband Walter Cunningham, and her step-daughter Yvonne Daniels.
She is survived by her loving children, Adrienne and Steven Cunningham, her niece, Karen Robinson, her great niece, Khalia Parish , and her cherished cousin, Ernest Alexander.
Dorothy’s warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
