Essie Mae McGlothlin

October 13, 1929January 26, 2019

Essie Mae McGlothlin, age 89, of Sun Lakes, Arizona passed away peacefully on Saturday January 26, 2019.

She was born October 13, 1929 in Golden Pond, Kentucky. She was one of six children born to Cordus Franklin and Mary Jane Vinson. Her family moved to East Peoria, Illinois in 1940.

Essie married her late husband of 64 years, James (Jim) Howard McGlothlin on October 2, 1949. They had four daughters, Pamela Jean Ford, Jill Ann Lofgreen, Mendy Lou McGlothlin, and Tina Sue Jones. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1963 and joined First Baptist Church of Scottsdale the same year. Essie was the proud grandmother to Erin Blasongame, Stacy Halbert, Megan Forbell, Jami Lofgreen, Kiera Lofgreen, and Brandon Jones. She was also proud of her six great grandchildren.

After the four girls started school, Essie started working at Motorola from 1965 to 1975. She then worked for the Tempe School District from 1978 until she retired in 1988. After Jim's retirement in 1989, they traveled to all the beautiful places they wanted to see and Essie's favorite was Ireland. She always enjoyed coming back home.

Essie thanked God for all her blessings and her greatest joy was in knowing Jesus her Savior and the love she shared with her husband, children, family, and friends. At Essie's request, a private family service will be held February 18, 2019 at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the McGlothlin family.

Robert and I lived across the street from Jim and Elsie for 30 years on college avenue in Tempe. We exchanged pleasantries and recipes. Jim was handy in the wood shop and we have some of his pieces.

Mendy and Todd were about the same age so we often asked about her to stay in touch.

We kept in contact at Christmas and I will miss that!

Our deepest sympathies to all the family,
Myrna Bowman and family
