She was the widow of Cornelius (Jady) Peevy. They shared 46 years together. Born in Hope, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Oliver Wade and Ida Woods (who died during birth). She was raised by her grandmother, Lizzy Woods. Frances was a long time servant of Jehovah God and truly enjoyed being at the meetings and her time spent out in the field ministry. She would spend many hours out in early morning witnessing at the Fry’s on 7th St. and Baseline and she truly enjoyed being involved in the preaching work. She also enjoyed the lively up building conversations she would have with her Brothers and Sisters while out in the ministry.
Frances was employed as a cafeteria manager for 20 years at Palmdale Elementary School until she retired. She re-organized the entire cafeteria program and ensured that the cafeteria ran as it should, providing the children with hot home cooked meals even if they did not have money to pay for lunch. She took great joy in making sure no child went hungry. She was known in the neighborhood as a 2nd mom who always had an open door, a warm plate, and a stern hand (if needed). When Frances’ sons Leonard and Oliver were in elementary school, their classmates would often pass up their school lunch to go to Frances’ house and eat her home made hamburgers and french fries and other tasty meals. She was truly one of a kind!! She enjoyed visits from family and friends, especially her "grands". We will all miss her stories and her sayings. Many of you have heard her say things like "oh boy" "love ya a whole bunch", “it’s a tough fight with a short stick”, “I got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel and it’s raining” . Frances made some of the best soul food ever. We are definitely going to miss her candied yams, carrot cake, collard greens, black eyed peas, corn bread, and stuffing with giblet gravy. In addition to her amazing cooking abilities, she had a passion for fashion. She had a love for beautiful hats and shoes and always wanted to look her best. Even in her old age she didn’t want to leave the house unless she was dressed to the T.
She is survived by sons Leonard (Trish) Peevy, Duane Peevy, daughter-in-law Avalon Peevy, 7 "grands", and 8 "great-grands". She was preceded in death by her husband Cornelius Peevy and son Oliver Peevy. Her beloved family and friends look forward to seeing her again after the resurrection.
Funeral Services for Frances will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00am at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6575 S. 43rd Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85041 with burial to follow at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Memorial Gardens.
