Mr. Ybarra is survived by his mom, Esperanza Lopez, four children: Kurina Carrillo, George Ybarra Jr., Zabrina Ybarra, and Krista Ybarra. He also leaves behind his only grandchildren: Jose Carrillo Jr. and Giselle Carrillo, who knew him as Tata George.
George was a decorated US Marine Combat Veteran who served in Desert Storm. His decorations included: Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 bronze campaign stars, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze ‘M’ device, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), and Rifle Sharpshooter.
Growing up in Arizona from the age of 6, George could be described as a perfectionist. Excelling as a student, constantly gaining new skills with a thirst for knowledge, it was inevitable that he was going to exceed at anything he put his mind to. Although George was an only child to Esperanza, he always dreamt of enlisting in the Marine Corps to serve his country and make his mom proud. He accomplished this and so much more. Passing on the invaluable lessons of how to apply compassion, discipline, and persistence with everything you do, were staples to success in George’s eyes. He lived every day smiling and laughing, surrounding himself with those who he treasured most; his loved ones.
We will never hear an old-school jam or admire a beautiful sports car, without thinking of you, George. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten, as you will live forever in our hearts.
