She was born on April 6, 1936 in Marion Indiana to Harvey H. Holderman and Blanche M Holderman, the last of 8 children. Her family moved to Syracuse NY when she was only 4. She had a memory of sitting in the car and her mother worrying about her brother Ken who was only 16 and driving another car.
At 15, her family moved to Jordan NY where she attended Jordan Elbridge High School in the 9th grade. However, school was a struggle so she quit and started working at various stores until landing a job at Barcraft Manufacturing.
Her friends at the company, set her up on a blind date. This young man with blond hair and blue eyes came to her door bringing flowers and chocolates. Her mother told her, a man like that who would bring gifts, she should marry him! It was a joke but 1 month later he stood in front of her mother and dad asking to marry their daughter. They were wed, November 7th, 1953.
In 1960, they moved into their home on Jackson St in Weedsport NY. While her husband was away as a truck driver, she was making a house into a home for their 2 young children. She taught herself to crochet, sew and do minor maintenance at their home. She wallpapered and installed carpeting. Later, in the summers, she led the family of now 4 children in picking strawberries and selling them to pay for vacation trips.
She enjoyed times with her friends and playing flinch with her sister-in-law the late Allison Holderman. While she had struggled with reading as a child, she found she enjoyed reading to her children and began reading for fun, enjoying Stephen King and Dean Koontz. In her more recent years, she was an avid reading of James Patterson. She enjoyed camping in Northern AZ as well as being a big fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team.
In 2006, she went on a 9-state drive with her oldest daughter, seeing all the northern states. Visiting the Air Force Academy, Yellowstone National Park, Teddy Roosevelt National Park, Custard’s last Stand, Mount Rushmore and so much more. In her life, she managed to visit 48 states. Then there were the CASINOs!! She enjoyed going to the casinos on Mother’s Day and her Birthday every year!
