Gloria Jean Lewis-Huckaby

Gloria Jean Lewis-Huckaby entered this life on July 22nd, 1967, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born to the union of Edward and Mae Etta Lewis. She began her education at T.G. Barr Elementary and graduated from South Mountain High School. Gloria was very active in school where she ran track and enjoyed extra-curricular activities. She professed her faith at a young age and joined Second National Baptist Church, under the pastorage of the late Samuel Henry. She loved gospel music and joined the choir as well as the usher board. She later joined Gethsemane Garden of Prayer under the pastorage of Charles E. Hendrix; where she was a member of the choir as well.

Gloria met and married David Joe Smith Sr. and from this union came four children: Diandra, David Jr, Regina, and Edward.

She would later marry Darren James Hendrix, whom she raised her children with.

God would then give her not only a soulmate, but husband and travel companion in David Huckaby. David and Gloria together would raise Diyari “Boogie” (son/grandson) together. Enjoying time and traveling was their favorite thing to do. David was always there driving her to her favorite destinations.

Gloria loved entertaining. Themed events and making center pieces were her most favorable past times. She also enjoyed shopping, decorating her home and cooking! She was known for making amazing salsa, green chicken enchiladas, gumbo and being a fashionista, owning over 200 pairs of shoes.

On July 9th, 2021, our heavenly father whispered “well done” thy good and faithful servant and took her hand to lead her home.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Edward and Mae Etta Lewis, her brothers Samuel Earl, Roy Lee, Freddy, Terry, Vernon and sisters Regina, Martha Ann, Sharon, and Elaine as well as her grandson she affectionately called “Bear Bear”, Elijah (Regina).

She leaves to continue her legacy her husband of 17 years David Huckaby, her four children Diandra Claytor (Preston), David Smith Jr., Regina Smith, and Edward Smith (Breann). Her siblings Robert Kelly, Barbara Blair, Roberta Kelly, and Davit Kelly, all of Phoenix, Arizona. Edward Lewis, Chantal Lewis, Bryan Lewis, and Mark Walker all of Fresno, California and Ricky Cunningham from Yuma, Arizona.

17 grandchildren, one whom she raised as her own, Diyari “Boogie” Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
