

James was born July 12th, 1919 and passed away on November 6th, 2016. He was born in Washington, Arkansas to the late Oscar and Bessie (Calvin) Chambers. James was the last survivor of 8 boys; He was son # 6. His family moved to Arizona in 1924, when James was only 5 years old. He attended Douglas and Booker T. Washington Elementary and Carver High School.
James married Evelyn H. Hopper in 1940. Born to that Union were 6 children; Zelma, Leon, Eugene, John, Ronald and Janis. Later he became the father to Vincent (Billy), Vonda, and Bridgette Chambers. He has a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a few great-greats.
James served in the United States Navy. He worked many years for Reynolds Aluminum Company until the Phoenix Plant closed. He also drove a truck for Charlie C. Jones and worked in construction for the Del E. Webb Corporation in Sun City, AZ. Years later James remarried and moved to Portland Oregon. He worked for the FMC Shipyard for many years. He then retired and returned to Arizona to be near his family.
His Celebration of Life will be held at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens at 4310 E. Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042, on Saturday November 19, 2016 at 11:00am with a viewing from 10:00am to 11:00amArrangements under the direction of Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, Phoenix, AZ.
