James Vernon Roney

Jim graduated from Big Sandy High School and attended the University of Tennessee. Jim enlisted in the Marine Core and trained at Paris Island, S.C. and Camp Lejuene, N.C. Jim also volunteered to teach at the Marine Corp Water Survival Program in Quantico, Virginia.

Working with a brother-in-law he learned how to pour foundations and build garages. Next to Detroit to work in the Ford factory. Jim's brother (Shorty) called and convinced him to come join him and his family in Arizona, too hot to work outside so he delivered and stocked sundries at grocery and drug stores. Jim was first hired at Motorola to work in the stock room and progressed to Manager of Small Signal Test Area then Marketing Customer Service.

Younger years saw him hiking, river running, tubing, and skiing. In later years he enjoyed repairing cars (as well as collecting them), bicycles, and furniture.

Jim married Janet (Jan) Daniels in 1976 and they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Jim would buy cars and fix them mechanically as well as some body work repair and Jan would reupholster them.

In the last 1 1/2 years Jim was cared for in a loving group home less than a 10 minute drive so Jan could visit almost daily. Jim loved to sing and was encouraged to do so by his caregiver who has shared many videos. These videos will be cherished as he can continue to sing with us. Jim was deeply loved and will be missed by wife, Janet; children Jay (Terry) Daniels, Jill Wise; grandchildren, Bradley, Sheena, Shelby; great grandchildren, Cole, Stone, Mason, Brooklynn, and many other relatives and friends. Jim is survived by sister Annie Ruth Holland of Tennessee.

A visitation will be held on January 15, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, located at 4310 East Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042.

The funeral service will follow on the same day from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the same venue.

A graveside service will take place from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042.
