Joan Catherine Burke

Our dear mother, Joan Catherine Burke, died on Monday, April 13, 2015, at her home in Phoenix, Arizona after a short illness. She was born in 1934, in Galway, Ireland, to Frances and Joseph Long. Joan was one of five sisters, together with Patricia, Margaret, Frances and Anne. Joan lived in Ireland, Germany, Spain, England, and the United States. For the past twenty-two years, Joan was a resident of Phoenix, Arizona. Joan loved spending time with her sisters, especially Frances in Joan's later years. She enjoyed travelling to London, Scarsdale, N.Y., and Washington, D.C. to visit her sons, Niall, Richard, and Paul, and their families, including seven grandchildren Esther, Adrian, Emily, Olivia, Catherine, Josie and Jessie. During her time in Phoenix, Joan made many friends. In particular, Jody Harwood and Jody's daughter Christina became part of her extended family.
