

Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and friend to many, John Trygve Andresen Jr. died peacefully at Magic Touch adult care in Chandler Arizona on Sunday, April 24, 2016.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY. At age 13 he and his family moved to Staten Island NY. After graduating from Tottenville HS in 1944, he joined the US Merchant Marines. He served for six years and was in the Pacific during WWII. He also served 4 years in the US NAVY. After his discharge from the Navy in 1954 he joined the Port Authority of NY as a Structural Maintenance Mechanic. After a 29 year career he retired as the General Maintainance supervisor of Brooklyn, Piers.
John graduated from Wagner College with a BS in Business after 7 years of night school. All while working full time and raising a family. John had a spirit of adventure and joy for living which was reflected in his favorite things to do with family and friends including: skiing, sailing, socializing, and traveling.
John was an active Member of the Reformed Church of Huguenot Park until moving to Florida. He sang in the choir for over 40 years, served for many years on the Consistory and the building and grounds committee. He was also a member of the Masons and served as the Grand Master of the Americas Lodge number 535.
After retiring from the Port Authority, he worked full time in his business with his son Jeffrey; installing, painting and maintaining the flagpoles in New York City.
John and Elsie, his wife of 52 years lived in Huguenot on Staten Island until they retired to Punta Gorda, FL in 1992. While in Punta Gorda, he taught knots to the boy scouts, volunteered at the local hospital and enjoyed dancing at the American Legion Hall.
John moved to the Phoenix area in 2014. He is survived by his Daughters: Susan, Debbie, Dawn and their spouses and his son Jeffrey and his wife, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29th at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens, 4310 E Southern Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042. Visitation 10AM - 11AM, services immediately following. A Memorial Service will be held in the Reformed Church of Huguenot Park, on Staten Island at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to the Reformed Church of Huguenot, 5475 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY 10312. Interment will be in Jefferson NY.
