John Ernster 74, passed away peacefully Monday October 28, 2019. He is preceded by his parents Versus (Ernie) and Norma Ernster, and the love of his life, his wife Gloria Ernster. John is survived by siblings, Lynn Jones and Mark Ernster.
John was raised in Mitchell, South Dakota, his parents moved their family to Arizona in 1961. Here after his honorable discharge from his Army service, John returned to his family in Arizona and learned the automotive service trade at their family owned business, a well-known and trusted Chevron service station in Phoenix.
A tireless businessman john owned and operated a successful company that bore his family's name. Ernster's Lube Service operated much like john, a man of his word, and he conducted his trusted business with pride and integrity.
Although John never had any children of his own, he was happy to share his life, his unconditional love and his success with his new bride and her four children in 1979. He was like no other father they had ever known, he was hardworking, kind, loving, wise and generous, and he was our "Papa."
John is a celebrated veteran, and he proudly flew the US and POW flags at his humble home in South Phoenix. He could often be seen in his community donning one of his many Vietnam Veterans ball caps. He shared his home with all which included a treasure trove of beloved cats and dogs, each bringing unconditional love and comfort. John was keen to recognize their gifts and personalities and blessed each and every one with endearing names that reflected his genuine appreciation for their presence in his life.
John enjoyed his life and was happy to share his time and generosity with his numerous friends, business colleagues, Veteran brothers and sisters and with any neighbor who was in need. Committal Service with Military Honors will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 10:30 am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix 85024.
