Jose Luis Figueroa Rodriguez, lovingly known to many as Dad, Pops, Apa, Grandpa, Grandpa Luie, Tio, Mi Negro, Buche, and Don Luis, transitioned while at home surrounded by his loving family on the night of March 29, 2026.
Luis was an artist at heart. He was best known for his master carpentry. Not only did he dedicate many years of his life to working in construction, but his creativity also poured out in the most beautiful ways. Among his creations were wood bed frames for his grandchildren, patio and dining room benches, and garden shelving. He helped build homes from the ground up. Most importantly, everything he created, he did with love and humility.
Luis was born in Momax, Zacatecas, Mexico on May 21, 1953, to Eulalia Rodriguez Garcia and Casildo Figueroa Villarreal. Luis will be remembered for his loving heart, humor, charisma, creativity, wittiness, and wisdom.
Those left to cherish his memory include his life-long partner and wife, Antonia Figueroa, his sons Luis David, Jose Alberto, Juan Antonio, and Victor Manuel, his daughters Maria Isabel, Martha Leticia, Celia Lorena, Flor Marina, and Patty. Luis was preceded in his transition by his sons Steve and Marcos Casildo.
Luis is also survived by twenty-eight grandchildren: Christopher David, Megan Eileen, Jonathan, Jeffrey Noel, Justin Isaiah, Timothy James, Valerie Marie, Joshua, Jacob, Emily Vanessa, Joey Nicolas, Jasmine Savannah, Edgar Dupenoine, Jessica Aurora, Jailene Itzel, Destiny Monique, Juan Antonio Jr., Nathan Moises, Victor Manuel Jr., Josiah Steve, Lukas Andres, Jocelin Faith, Josefine Hope, Julius Rome, Julieah Sky, Jaiylah Star, Samuel Alfonzo, and Juan Pablo, thirteen great-grandchildren: Delysia Adalynn, Leonidas Elijah, Quasar Marcos, Ezra Azul, Marcos Alexander, James Andrew, Roman Isiah, Remi Carmelita, Lilah Monique, Andres Ray, Angelina Jaylene, Jerrick Alijah, and Michael Raiden, two brothers, one sister, and several other loving family members.
Of all that he created, he was most proud of his family. He would never take credit for it, giving the glory to God only, but his quiet influence helped built the foundation of a united family. The immense love in his heart will live on in them for ever.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 4pm to 8pm. A church service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 7am with a gravesite blessing to follow at Resthaven.
