

Juan Charles Chavez, 83, of Tempe, AZ passed away on March 25, 2013. Born in Harlingen, TX on May 9, 1929, Juan joined the Army as a young man and received a Purple Heart while serving in the Korean War. He worked as a maintenance foreman at Mallin Brothers Iron and Metal and loved to travel. He especially enjoyed trips to San Diego and Hawaii. Juan was a Phoenix resident for 60 years and is survived by his wife of 30 years; Alice (Cox) Chavez, by his children; Mary Meyer, John Chavez, Margarita Klein, Jessie Chavez, Guadalupe "Wally" Chavez, Santiago "Jimmy" Chavez, Angelica Morales, Adam Johnson, Nicolas Chavez, Alexandra Chavez, and Joshua Chavez. He is also survived by his brothers; Armando Castaneda, Merced Tamez, and is preceded in death by one brother; Librado Chavez. Juan also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be held at Resthaven Park Mortuary, 4310 E. Southern Ave in Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, April 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00pm, with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00pm. Juan's memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4th at 11:00am.
