Mary Whitmore was born in Ennis Texas, of Ellis County, on March 7, 1927, to parents: Willie Brown & Bessie Mae Gamble. She moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1965, and in 1966 married PW Whitmore. She is survived by the following daughters and son: Bertha Mae Owens (Allison Owens) of TX; Margie and Tami Whitmore of Phoenix, AZ; Stephanie Nicastro of UT; Vernell Cofer of TX; and
Jeff Johnson of GA; a host of relatives which include: grand children, great grand children, great great grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Mary was a spiritual woman and yearned to learn the Bible, she began studying the bible with Sister Manning and proudly became a baptized Jehovah’s Witness in 1975. She endeavored to live her life according to what she learned in the bible and encouraged others to do so. As part of her spiritual activity, she had the privilege to serve as an auxiliary pioneer; one time even with her daughter Tami in 2013. Her favorite Bible scripture was Proverbs 3:5,6.
Mom was a devoted mother to all she came into contact, and her unwavering love was felt by many; we can honestly say that we had the “Golden Mom”! She loved making our home a place of love and security. She was a great cook—could toss ingredients together and make a delicious meal with ease. Mom was also a fun-loving woman who enjoyed gardening and shaking her hips to what moved her, earning her the secret nickname “Shake and Bake”. Her favorite saying when asked how she was feeling: “Fine as dandy, sweet as candy!” Mom was a very hard worker and had various jobs. She and her husband had two businesses together: Detailing cars and Lawn Maintenance. In the Lawn Maintenance business they were contractors for the City of Phoenix, and in 1992 they earned a “Construction Related Services” award for their “Quality of service and Extraordinary efforts” on the construction of S.R. 51. There is a void in our life and hearts; ‘they just don’t make ‘em like this anymore!’
