Mattie H Stephens

The beautiful Mattie H. Stephens of Gilbert, Arizona, 84 passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on August 22, 2012. She was born on April 26, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama to Josephine Walker and Charley Hardy. She had five siblings, Josephine Hardy, Ruth Hardy, Ernest Hardy, Charles Hardy, Andrew Hardy and Reginald Hardy. Special affiliations included Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Las Vegas Alliance of Black School Educators Inc., community choral groups in Cleveland, Ohio and Las Vegas, Nevada. She received her Master's Degree in Education from Kent State University in 1978. She worked as a nurse and an educator to thousands of children for many years while residing in Cleveland, Ohio and later Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Phyllis Stephens and former husband Carl Stephens Sr. She is survived by four sons, Carl Jr., Michael, Kevin, Derek and two daughter in laws. She had eight grand children and three great grand children. She will be dearly missed by friends and family all across the United States.

Visitation 10 – 11 am Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Resthaven Park Mortuary 4310 E. Southern Ave. Phoenix, Arizona following with Funeral Service at 11am. Entombment at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
