Madrecita, reconosco que no siempre supe manejar tu enfermedad,  tiempos de confusión  y mal momentos. Ni tampoco se como manejar esta epidemia que estamos viviendo. Tu nos enseñaste que un abrazo de seres queridos en la hora de sufrimiento calma el más fuerte dolor. Madre, me quede con el deseo de acurrucarme contigo en tus últimas horas. Y me aguantaré  con el deseo de abrazarte a ti y a mis seres queridos como señal de apoyo y amor en tu día de partir.  Temo la posibilidad de contaminarlos con el virus. Pero les mando mi más fuerte abrazo y mil besos. Mamá, le pido a Dios que te reciba en su Gloria, sabiendo que te encontraras con los que más te amaron en asta vida. Nos veremos en el más allá. Gracias por tu grande amor de madre, abuela, hermana, tía, suegra y amiga.Te amaré siempre.

I’ve always referred to Sofia as Sofie. I met Sofie in 1969. I was a grade school friend of Sylvia and dated Sylvia’s youngest sister Sarah.   The first date I had with Sarah, I recall sitting in Sofie’s living room getting acquainted, (Sarah hid in her bedroom)!   She gave me the “once over” for sure  but she  was very kind and respectful.  I admired her sincerity from that day on. She always made me feel welcomed and  part of the family.  I never took her kindness granted, I respected her, her home and family. She spoke Spanish fluently and I did not but she never held it against me.  However she would correct me. She had this bashful smile when talking to me in English, I would say, “ I understand you perfectly, your English is very good”.  

 Every time I visited she offered to make something to eat, I don’t think I ever refused. She was an excellent cook.    She loved to sing and once she got to know me better, occasionally she would bust in a song. It was obvious  that Roy got his voice from his mom.  She was an awesome mother. As single parent she kept her girls in line.   Although she had to work the hardest on Sylvia,  LOL!

One of life’s gift is our memories for the people we love.  I will always cherish my memories of Sofie.  God Bless Sofie. 

Sometimes I would walk into my mom's house with this song playing on my phone and she would start dancing. Without saying a word, she would grab her purse and we would dance together towards the front door. Time to go Junking.

My sweet mom, oh how I will miss going to her house and finding her sitting at the kitchen table enjoying her cup of coffee. She always had food on the stove just in case someone showed up, and someone usually did. I will miss our drives in the car where she would sing nonstop. I will miss her reading a poem that she had just written. Oh she had the power of the pen, she was a very good poet. I will miss the story telling, the smell of her house, the piled high tortillas she would make to enjoy with her frijolitos. I will miss her consejos, her laughter, her sterness, her excitement at Christmas when she would have tons of food for everyone to enjoy, especially her tamales. She made the best. tamales everrr. At 95, mom got to see her own children grow old, enjoy her grandchildren's children and even 1 great-great grandchild. I can only feel gratitude to God for giving us the best mom ever and for so many years. She touched the  hearts 💕 of so many people .  We thought she would beat the odds and live forever, but God came for her one day and said, "Sofia, it's time to go...come with me. Take my hand and I will take you to where I have prepared a place for you. Your other friends and family are there to greet you." and she peacefully and tenderly left us. 
"See you on Tuesday mama." (We never say goodbye, we always say that we will see eachother on Tuesday). I ❤️ you mama, now, tomorrow and always!


I remember my tia Sofia when I was growing up going to visit her alot. All of us kids played outside and she was cleaning or cooking at all times.she always fed us her home cooked meals with fresh made tortillas. I grew up eating her cooking and never found anyone to cook as good as she did.(except my mom). I will never forget the times we spent with my cousins.
