In Loving Memory of Guadalupe “Lupe” Gonzalez Martinez. Born December 12, 1937 in Rodey, New Mexico, Lupe lived most of his life in Pico Rivera, California, where he passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.
Lupe was a cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He is survived by 5 children – sons Tony and wife Biggi, Bobby and wife Arleen, Fernie and wife Elsa, daughters – Christine and husband Garret, Yvonne and husband George, Brother Tony and wife Gloria, 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Lupe’s Mother Epifania Gonzalez Martinez and Father Librado Martinez have long since passed, however, blessed the Martinez Family with 8 children total (5 boys and 3 girls) who continued to grow the Family Tree with many nieces and nephews to Lupe.
He married Angie, who he met in Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by Angie, his wife of 62 years, and oldest son, Tudy. Angie passed in 2020 and Tudy in 2008.
Working for many years as a Butcher at Golden State Foods, Lupe was good at his craft. He was a master at slicing, dicing and cooking meats of all kinds. When it was time for a career change, he became a groundskeeper for the Montebello School District in Southern California before finally retiring to enjoy the benefits of his many, many years of hard work.
His favorite past time was playing pool (a skill he passed down to his kids and even some of his grandchildren) and “tinkering.” If he could imagine it, he would build it or modify it. Sometimes we were amazed at the items he would “make work” when no one else would have thought it possible.
He had a good, long life. Lots of “downs”, but definitely many “ups.” He will Always be in Our Hearts. Rest in Peace Dad.
