My condolences to the Barreras family.
James was one of my first and best friends when I started at Lillian St School. We remained good friends through Jr High and High School. Life took us in different directions after high school but we would run into each other from time to time. Later we reconnected through FB. I will miss him and his amusing posts.
Rest in peace my friend,
Ruben Acuna, HPHS '76

To Barreras Family, I send my sincerest condolences and sympathies to your family.
James and I were school friends, with shared memories from Lillian Street Elementary School, Gage Jr. High, HPHS, and our class reunions, and annual picnics, which he tried hard to not miss.
For many years, I’d regularly receive his call on Thanksgiving Day. FYI! All of his call, would start with Hey! Irene it’s me your childhood friend James. We’d talk about so much, even religion and politics.
He also sent my husband and I many Christmas Cards. I will miss his call and cards.
He was full of life and the most adventurous, and kind - to - me person that I’ve I known .
When my sister was murdered he was very consoling, Encouraged, and offered to help me write a book. I am still working on it. James passing is now a greater reminder to me to finish it.
So now, it’s me saying... Hey! James, I say back to you... it’s me Irene your “”Lillian School Friend saying Good Bye, RIP and enjoy your new journey!

James was/is my younger Uncle. His adventurous nature was the envy of the family. His humor and love of life made him an example of what we should embrace. I'll miss his presence on Facebook here in San Antonio, TX. Rest in peace "Cuz"

Going to miss my fellow Spartan and neighborhood friend. We often debated on Facebook about life, technology and political difference all while respecting each other’s views. His photographs on life will live on for us all to enjoy.

Rest In Peace James.

James and I became friends on Facebook after discovering we were fellow Spartan alumni. We discussed the picnics, politics, shared photos and had fun doing it. Will miss him, but know he's out of pain and resting with the angels. Patty Chavez winter 66, HPHS.
