It's been 5 years dad but it feels like yesterday since you left. I miss you everyday.

My dad Larry Bates went to school with Lefty and Richard. They were friends for decades. Unfortunately my dad passed away February 10 from covid. My mom and I were wondering how Lefty was doing.  We’re so sorry for your family’s lost. I’m sure their having a great time together in heaven. I did not know Larry, but my dad did and he misses him. Apparently they chatted quite often on the phone and then the phone calls stopped. My dad kept trying to call him but then found the phone saying "this number is not in service".  I did a search on his home first using the address my dad had (I'm a Realtor) and saw that his home was still under his name. I then googled Larry and found his obituary. It broke my heart that I had to tell my dad that his dear friend was gone. I could hear the disappointment in his voice and he then said he was going to have to tell the rest of the guys. There is a group of them that have kept in touch off and on since Junior High! He had to be a really good guy for my dad to have kept in touch with him so long and he had some stories. May your family find comfort in knowing Larry had friends that he kept in touch with and they loved him. They will all miss their dear friend.

Larry you started out as my brother in law. you became a very good friend of my husband Benny and I. not only a friend but family. We will always remember the Cali high five. I swear when you and Benny went to high five each other you guys missed. we never laughed so hard. you and I had the best time with us trying to out do each other with the birthday cards. Lord knows you will be missed.  still can't believe your gone. Rest In Peace Lawrence, we love you.

Larry was our California Dad   From the first time we met he welcomed us into his family as one of his own.  We celebrated many birthday anniversaries and holidays together.  The gathering in his backyard hold many special memories for us and everyone else.   These memories and many others will keep him in our hearts and minds forever.

When I first started to play regularly with the GoGetters Team 3. The Kings. You were my first baseman. You were the first individual that I yelled out,”Where is my first basemen “. And that tradition was born. Then when you hung up your spikes. You became the best third base coach in the league. Your expertise at third lead us to numerous Senior Softball  Championships. And also the tradition of hoisting a few celebratory cold ones in your backyard . It’s going to hurt when we win another Championship. But you’ll always be there in spirit. This season, The Big Red Machina dedicates to you, Rest In Peace. Lefty. 

Lefty you were a kind wonderful man you will be missed dearly. Prayers for you and your family xoxo papa

We lost a really good man. Larry  was a great guy. A veteran of this country and good friend. I first met him working at the VFW in Pico Rivera. He came in to size up the new bartender to see if I was worthy of keeping an eye on his home away from home. He came in with a stern expression and serious stare. Of all things I'll remeber is the fact of how he could speak with just one look. Just by a glare you could tell his mood or how he felt. Before long I assume I passed the test cause eventually he'd stop in during the day have a single beer to say hello and then late in the evening make sure I was ok before closing up. He made sure not just the place was safe but the people in there were too. He was a genuine old school well respected man. He always took care of those he loved and will be missed. I cant say how much it can mean to sit next to anyone and never have to say a word but still have a conversation that last for hours and leave content that all was communicated. Some people make an impact on your life and some people can do more. Thank you Larry God Bless you keep you in his glory and peace May eternal life treat you like a king!

Larry you were a very special friend to me. You were always there for me when I needed to vent, a shoulder to cry on or just to have great conversation with.   We shared many stories about our families with one another. You treated me like another daughter You took care of me and never left me alone no matter how tired you were.  I will never forget you and I will always miss you.   My dear friend   Rest In Peace 

Larry you were like a father to me in many ways growing up.  You were a great example of a loyal and loving family man. I thank you for all you taught me as well as the great experiences with the Govea family.  I am forever grateful.   I know you are up there having a beer with the alley cats!  Ha! Ha!
