Mary Avelar, 97, was born on April 19, 1929, in Whittier, California, and passed away on June 26, 2026. A longtime resident of Pico Rivera, California, Mary will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Mary carried herself with steady devotion and quiet strength. Her faith and loyalty were evident in the way she loved, served, and stood by those closest to her, offering a constant presence marked by resilience and care. She was, in every sense, beloved—anchoring her family with a steadfast spirit and a generous heart.
Mary was married to the love of her life, Guadalupe Avelar, for 66 years. She was the mother of four children, and her legacy continues through six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. She is survived by her children: George Avelar, Rose Marron, Frank Avelar, and Andy Avelar.
Mary’s warmth was often felt most clearly around the table. A truly great cook, she was especially known for her famous salsa—an offering made with care, shared with pride, and remembered with gratitude.
She also gave generously of her time and companionship, remaining active in the Pico Rivera Senor club for over 35 years, where her faithful presence and loyal friendships reflected the values she lived by each day.
