I was stationed at Lackland AFB, TX, conducting my technical training at the security forces school in 2000. He had came into our compound looking for the dining facility. I took him there and had quite a conversation. I didn't have transportation and he knew the buse system fairly well, so we took a trip down town. He was really into the historical side of San Antonio. He told me about his interest in the civil war. We exchanged a few Christmas cards, but didn't really keep in touch. I was searching through my letters this morning and ran across his name. I did a search and found out he had passed. Sorry to hear this. He was a very nice person.

I remember Mike from Fern Elementary School. We were fifth grade classmates. I didn't keep in touch with him until the internet brought us together again all these years later where we shared some email. I was impressed by MIke's military career, his historical interests, and his loving family. It was amazing for me to remember the boy who had now grown into a grandpa. I'll always think of Mike as that friendly kid, adored by the whole class, who so often made us laugh.  Sleep in peace, Michael, and may God bless.

Michael was very dear to my heart. I know that he is now in God's loving arms. I am so sorry not to have been closer to him all the years of his life but my parents were his loving parents and he was loved very much by all of us.  This from his biological mother.

WHEN I THINK OF MY COUSIN MICHAEL, I ALWAY'S REMEMBER HIM MOSTLY WHEN HE WAS A LITTLE BOY. I USED TO BABY SIT HIM AND HE WOULD GO WITH ME AND MY FRIENDS. I WAS 12 AND HE WAS 4-5.HE WAS ALWAYS TRYING GET ME IN TROUBLE IF I DIDN'T DO WHAT HE WANTED. HA -HA YOU KNOW HOW LITTLE KIDS CAN BE. THROUGH THE YEARS WE DIDN'T KEEP IN TOUCH AS MUCH AS WE DID BUT OFTEN THOUGHT OF HIM.HE WILL BE MISSED BY FAMILY AND FRIENDS. HAD A SENSE OF HUMOR.BUT WE WILL RE UNITE IN TIME. IN MY PRAYERS MICHAEL.

I am deeply sad about Mike's unexpected loss.  Mike was a character with a very unique sense of humor. He loved to share stories about him in the service. And he was also a model car collector and love to share them with his friends. Mike was a very lovely and outgoing man. I remember every dinner we had with his sweet wife Linda.  Linda and I always ordered sushi and Mike was always making this funny faces at us…:) Mike  You will be missed!

Mike and I worked together for a while and always had a lot to talk about.  Our co-workers were very saddened by his sudden departure.  I remember the day we went to eat at CHOMPS . Your reaction when you saw Jeanette eating the quail eggs. It was priceless.  I think it would please you to know how much people here are already missing you. We'll see you again one day.

I was saddened to hear of Mike's passing and send condolences to his family.  My grandmother took this picture of all of us kids in the summer of 1964. I will always remember Mike as having a big smile and a rare sense of humor. He often made us laugh back then and was a close friend to my brother for over 50 years. He will be missed.

I only met Mike once but he seems to be a nice guy, but I knew his beautiful and kind wife Linda.  Linda my friend,  It's hard to lose someone you love, but though it may not seem quite fair this had to happen now, And though you may not understand just why it did or how,  Think of your time together, the love and joy, the good memories of Mike that he shared with you----  And perhaps those thoughts and memories will ease your pain and help to see you through during this difficult times.

As a fellow historian, I used to enjoy trading stories with Mike at our monthly Air Force Reserve drills. We had just gotten a puppy before the March Air Base picnic in 2005. Every time I ran in to him, for years later, he would ask how our dog was doing. Mike Planty was good people.

I knew Mike from Grammar school.Many years have gone by without any contact but once we re-connected a few years ago he was still one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I'm so glad we were able to see him at our reunion last month.God bless as you were loved by many.

I worked with Mike or “Planty” as I called him, at Azusa Pacific University. He was one of my favorite friends there. He was so full of knowledge, especially about the Civil War, an interest we both shared. I remember asking him to wear his military ribbons on his uniform once for a picture we were taking and to honor his years of service. When he showed up with half his chest covered, I could not believe my eyes and I then knew there was far more to him than he let others know.  He always surprised me and that is what I loved the most about him. He had such spunk and energy that I thought there was time. I will truly miss him and the fact that I will not be able to have one of those long talks I enjoyed so much.

mike has been my friend for over 45 years.we lost contact for a long while but reconnected in 2009. he also attended a grade school class reunion this past august,many of his past classmates attended and all were glad to see him.he will be missed very much.rest old friend knowing you were loved and respected by all who knew you!!

Mike was retired from the US Air Force Reserves at March Field, California and was a member of the 50th Aerial Port Squadron. We spent all afternoon last Saturday listening to his stories of the Civil War and the War for Mexiacn Independance as he regaled my family with trivia of all the famous generals who made their early careers at the battle of Chapultepec, in the Mexican American War. He was a treasure trove of knowledge and shared it easily with everyone, especially young people. I am honored to call Mike my friend and trusted member of the Profession of Arms. We spent many tours together and years of weekend drills and I was privileged to attend his retirement ceremony. He was looking forward to our annual veteran's luncheon at Azusa Pacific University next month where he was on the Security detail there. You will be missed my friend!
