To my Aunt Patty, 
So it's been nearly 3 months since your passing, and I have avoided writing in your guest book. I guess I thought if I just ignored it then it was all a dream, that you would still be at home, rolling your hair, smoking a cigarette, yelling about someone interrupting your time, and pissing you off. I can't tell you Aunt Patty what an impact that you had on my life. My whole life was built on the foundation of the Cox Family...the bond between a mother and her 7 kids...something that the first of us grand kids had imbedded in our souls. And it's something that most of us have built our whole lives on…and now apiece is missing. So how do we go on without that very important piece? Every memory that I have as a child was with my Aunts and Uncles, my cousins, my Grandma...we were always together. I was with you a lot since you had kids…so I just became one of them. You have given me so many memories to cherish…I remember you rolling your hair, I remember Popsicles in the tub, sponge curlers in our hair, matching jammies, Tupperware parties, the red picnic table in the yard and how we all fought over the "highchair", dinner with the colored cups, and the van, how could I forget the van. And the record player, the parties, the dancing, and the music...Don't Cry Joni...you always played it just for me. Your nasty jokes, and trying to teach everyone to touch their tongue to their nose, amaretto and soda, and your tea…the way you packed every cigarette on your lighter before you smoked it. I remember your favorite color purple, how you loved butterflies, and your bell collection...the shelves they sat on the day you died, are the same shelves they have sat on for nearly 40 years. In the last 13 years you were not just my Aunt, you were my friend. You were the one always reminding me that I was gonna be okay, no matter how hard my life was going, because you knew that the judgment could eat me alive. And you taught me that it didn't matter, to be who I am, not who they want me to be. That is probably the best lesson I've ever been taught my entire life...You were that voice that I heard when I wanted to give up telling me that I could do it, because you knew how much I needed to hear it. I miss you so much Aunt Patty, it hurts so much to face that fact that the person who understood me, is gone. You gave me so much without even realizing it, and I never said it, it was just an unspoken truth that was just there. And, now it's gone... There are days that I just wanna pick up the phone and call, and I can't because your not there. I still haven't brought myself to delete your phone number from my phone... You touched me in such a special way...and I am so lucky, so lucky, to have had the pleasure of being someone that you called your family, your friend, and your niece...your first niece. It is going to be so hard this year when my "big" day rolls around, my 13 years, and you won't be calling me like you have for the past 12. Telling me how so very proud you were that I made it, and that no matter what, I could keep making it one more time. You have always made that day special with that one phone call. Oh Aunt Patty, I miss you so much...and although I'm sitting here with tears running down my face, and still feeling lost, I know that you are in a better place. You are no longer in pain, and I hope you have a found the peace and comfort you needed. I had the pleasure of standing next to that hospital bed, rubbing your hair, and kissing your face as you took your very last breath, along with your daughter, telling you to let go, that it was going to be okay. It was surreal...what privilege and a blessing. Blessed for being one of the lucky ones that you cared for...that you loved. And as I sat in the pew at your funeral, and watched everyone get up there and speak about you...I was amazed. I don't know anyone that can say they have had friends for over 50 years, but you could...People that had known you since you played Barbie's with as a little girl ...that was so amazing. You touched so many people, without even knowing it. And, I was so glad to have witnessed and been apart of your last true wish…to see your kids together again. My Aunt Patty, my friend, I will always miss you, and I will always love you...it's time for me to let go, not to say goodbye, to let go. Thank you for all of my memories, I will carry them in my heart forever. Thank you for having such an amazing impact on my life. I am a better, stronger woman for it. Where do I start.......There is really no words that I can type that will truly explain what an honor it was for me to have you back in my life for the last few years. I remember how nervous I was when I first saw you again after so many years of me being away. I often found myself wanting to just apologize for all that I had done and put you through for so long, but doing so is what I had always done in the past, and I did not want to just tell you how I felt, I had decided that I would just show you how much I appreciated you. When you were diagnosed, I think I just decided that it was going to be something we dealt with going forward, yet really had no idea how quickly the cancer would take you away from us. I would often call you on my way home from work to "check-in", maybe here your latest "dirty joke", or just listen to your voice hoping to hear if things were getting worse, so I could somehow come to the rescue. I'll never forget the first time Melissa told me you had called her direct, and you guys just talked for a while, or how you made her family from day one. 
You know Mom, my earliest memory is of me being dressed in a funck little rust colored get up at my birthday party hanging over the back of a chair playing the laundry pin in the water container game, cake all over the red picnic table, and you yelling at us kids to be quiet. (What I would do to hear that now) From that day on I can honestly say that you loved us kids no matter how difficult it became at times. You NEVER gave up on me, even when you should have. 
It has taken me over two months to type in this book, because I just did not know what to say........So, I will close this up with a few things.......First and foremost your "celebration of life" was truly amazing. It seemed as if every friend or family member in your life came to memorialize you Mom, they were all there for you! One after another they came to the microphone to share a memory of you ar just point out how much they cared about you and how much you would be missed. But, I'm sure you were there to see us all. I love you Mom.

It is so sad to lose someone you love so much. I cant imagine the pain you all feel. Please take comfort in knowing that Patty is with God, and will never suffer pain again. God Bless you all.

Patty I wrote something in here for you but it did not pass inspection. Now over 2-1/2 months have gone by. I still don't feel any peace, the grief is no less. I just know my heart hurts so bad, you had always been there for me and now I have no one Patty. I need you, I miss you and I love more than anything. I am  happy you are at peace and I can only prayer that God will call me very, very soon to join you.

Mom the day you died I kissed your face after you died I held you close to me. I knew it would be the last time I held you for the rest of my life. You were so sick, and in so much pain that is no life. I know you were afraid to die. I hope you have found comfort. Do you remember how I held your hand and lay my head on your shoulder. Even at that moment I couldn't imagine life without you. People talk about broken hearts in songs and movies. Until that moment I had never known a true broken heart. Over and over I thought how can I live without you. Everyday I look up at the sky I know you're watching me. I love and miss you more than anything.

To my sister Patty, grief can be so hard, I have this hole in my heart of just thinking that you are no longer here with us.  I know that you are no longer afraid and have that fear that you had and no more pain but I miss you so much.  I will always always love you.

Dear Tracy, Trisha & Christopher,

Earlier this week, I sat down to write you a poem about your mom for the three of you. As I sat in my chair, I found myself smiling and reminiscing about the times I spent with her and you. All I could remember was the happiness of when we were kids and the times that our parents would get together at holidays, parties and other events. After about 4hours, I realized I had not written a single word, but I had renewed many memories of your mom, My Aunt Patty. I believe it was your mom giving me one more gift of happiness.

Her Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of her as gone away,

Trisha, Tracy, Christopher, Tony and the rest of the Cox family I am so sorry for your loss.  Patty is in a better place and finally at peace with our Lord.  She will truly be missed by all.  She was such a great long time friend and I will really miss her.

My deepest condolences to Tricia, Tracy, Christopher and the Cox family. We were neighbors and our families remained long time friends. We played Barbie's together and hiding go seek with our neighborhood friends. As we grew in adulthood we kept in touch seeing each other when we could. I never imagined the pain I would feel with your passing, the emptiness, the sadness, I miss the texts from you, I miss just knowing you were there.  I love you with all my heart and know that all the things they say are true, you're no longer suffering, in a better place but it doesn't make it any easier right now..I guess it will with time.
