

“Indeed we know that when the earthly tent in which we dwell is destroyed we have a dwelling provided for us by God, a dwelling in the heavens, not made by hands but to last forever.” Brent Joseph“Buddy” Cox Jr., 76, of Pierre Part, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Parkinsons and dementia. He was born in Lafayette on Jan.30, 1936, son of Brent J. Cox Sr. and Euphemie “Mim” Guidry Cox. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Georgiana Cavalier Cox; four children, Georgetta Cox Comeaux and husband Craig Comeaux, Brent Joseph “Buster” Cox III and wife Mary Margaret Elliott Cox, Jason Matthew Cox and wife Kim Rivere Cox, and Angella Cox Constant and husband Craig Constant; eight grandchildren, Christopher Comeaux, Jason “Jace” Cox II, Samantha Comeaux, Taylor Cox Flores and husband Roland, DeShae Perera, Zachary Comeaux, Mary Catherine Constant and Elizabeth Constant; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Comeaux and Aubrey Comeaux; nieces and nephews, Kristie Landry Overstreet, Dr. Robert Landry, Jared Landry, Dwayne “Dac” Cox, Ricky Cox and Charlene Cox Gauthreaux; a sister, Joan Cox; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Medine Cox. Brent served in the U.S. Army National Guard before being drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served his term on a Naval Air Training base. There he developed an avid love for flying and upon returning home obtained a private pilot’s license. Brent was instrumental in the development of Bon Temp Park and organizing and coaching Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball. Brent was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Parish where he was an usher and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He was a past parish council member, maintenance committee member, and volunteered to help in many areas of parish life. Brent was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 5254. Preceded in death by his parents, Brent J. Cox Sr. and Euphemie “Mim” Guidry Cox; brother, Willie “Billy” Cox; father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Claude “Sho Sho” and Noelie Pipsair Cavalier; and infant brother-in-law, Harold Joseph Cavalier. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Christopher Comeaux, Jason “Jace” Cox II ,Zachary Comeaux, and nephews, Dwayne Cox, Ricky Cox, Dr. Robert Landry and Jared Landry. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Pierre Part, on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 6 p.m.to 10 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Pierre Part, at 11 a.m. Entombment in the church cemetery.
