A native and lifelong resident of Pierre Part, Louisiana, died at 2:55 A.M. December 26, 2011 at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where he had been hospitalized for two weeks. He was 81 years old and a retired crane operator for McDermott Fabricators in Amelia, Louisiana. More recently he served 8 years as a deputy with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was married to Ann Blanchard on Aug 23, 1950 and together they brought 8 children into the world, 7 boys and 1 girl. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, a charter member of Pierre Part Belle River Knights of Columbus Council 5352 and served as an usher at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Pierre Part. He was selected Grand Marshal of the 2000 Christmas parade. The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus named him Deputy of the Year for 2006-2007.
During his lifetime he pursued many ambitions and hobbies, some are: a farmer with his father Noé, construction worker on highway 70, pipeline construction onshore and offshore. He worked for the McDermott Corporation for 26 years and as a deputy for the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s office for 8 years. He enjoyed crawfishing and turtle trapping. He volunteered his time cooking for the church fairs in Pierre Part and other parishes. He also cooked with the Cajun Chefs as well as cooking for Knights of Columbus meetings and for his family on weekends. For many years he took requests from boys and girls as Santa Claus.
When his father was widowed, Floyd and his wife Ann looked after him until his father passed away.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Blanchard of Pierre Part, son Lindsey and his wife Susan Litton, their 3 children and 1 grandchild; son Horace and his wife Dinah Miller, their 2 daughters and 1 granddaughter; son Wayne and his wife Doreen Breaux, their 2 children and 2 grandsons; daughter Rita Faye, her son and 1 grandson; son Dale and his wife Pamela Guillot, and their 2 children and 1 grandson; son Benson and his wife Patricia Cedotal, their 2 children and 5 grandchildren; son Floyd Gerard; adopted son Jeremy and his wife Celeste Bergeron and their son. He also has many nieces and nephew, grand nieces and grand nephews. His sister Beatrice Ann Blanchard Tullier and her husband Gerald Tullier also survive him as well as a brother T. J. Blanchard and his wife Liane Combe Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his parents Noé Joseph Blanchard, and Noelie Saint Germain Blanchard, infant son, Peter and grandson Brett “Bubba” Blanchard.
Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home in Pierre Part on Wednesday December 28, 2011 from 6:00 – 10:00 P.M. and on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Pierre Part, Louisiana celebrated by Rev. Trey Nelson. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Belle River.
