Nancy Grasso was born on July 7, 1942 in Sacramento, CA to Mary Ann and Mike Grasso, the eldest of four girls. After living in several states, the family settled down in Lafayette, LA. This is where Nancy grew up. This is also where, in the 8th grade, she met the boy who would become the love of her life.
Nancy and Lanny were married in 1962 and became parents to Missy and Andy. After multiple moves they ended up, in 1971, in Pierre Part, LA. Here they raised their family and together grew their business, Duco’s Bait Shop. During this time Nancy and Lanny were involved in community organizations, including the Jaycee’s. This led to friends who became family in Guatemala, with many trips back and forth.
After 30+ years, they closed the shop and retired. This gave them much time for traveling and visiting family. In addition to traveling with Lanny, Nancy enjoyed working in their flower and vegetable gardens with him. Their yard was a riot of colors and Nancy was particularly known for her beautiful tulip beds. Reading was another favorite pastime, as was sewing and embroidery work.
Nancy is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Karl Theriot, Pierre Part; three grandchildren: Kale Theriot (Simone), Baton Rouge, Mandy Theriot Barkley (Chris) Prairieville, and Nicholas Duco, Naval Base Kilsap Bremerton, WA; five great-grandchildren: Hayes Hall, Cameron Barkley, Lane Barkley, Emory Theriot and Cooper Theriot; sister: Eileen Duke; sisters-in-law: Sue Ann Abdalla and Lorraine Hyatt; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lanny Duco; her son, Mike “Andy” Duco: great-grandchild, Carson Hall; parents, Mary Ann and Mike Grasso; her sisters, Marilyn Buford and Joanne Varisco; brothers-in-law, Fred Buford, Mike Varisco, Charles Abdalla and Homer Hyatt.
Nancy will be greatly missed by her family and friends but there is joy in our hearts knowing that she and Lanny are together again.
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Ourso Funeral Home in Pierre Part for 9:00 am until the Mass of Christian Burial for 11:00 am at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Father Al Davidson will be officiating.
