Glenda Pogue passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024 in West Palm Beach, Florida. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on October 18, 1935 to Eugene and Helen Schlag. As a child she dreamed of becoming a championship figure skater and was on the ice as much as her parents would let her. That dream ended when her father, a regional vice president for Montgomery Ward, was transferred to St. Louis, Missouri.
She grew up in a small town called St. Clair and was very active, along with her mother, in First Baptist Church of St. Clair, where her uncle was the pastor. After graduating from St. Clair High School, she attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri where she played saxophone in the band and majored in music. It was here where she met David Pogue. He was on the school basketball team and was voted most athletic and class clown by his peers. They were married in 1955.
After college, David joined the Navy and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where Glenda joined him and they lived together on the Naval base. While she was expecting her first child, the Navy was concerned, because of the unrest that was going on in Cuba at the time, and suggested that she go back to the U.S. She was flown to Miami where she resided with her parents.
After moving to Pompano Beach, FL she was hired by First Baptist Church, Pompano Beach as secretary to the Minister of Music. She held many positions there in her 40 years of employment at the church. She served under seven pastors. After her retirement in 2003, she took a month off and then volunteered every Wednesday, at the front desk, greeting people and answering the phone, for the next 17 years. She loved her church and her Lord.
She is survived by two sons, Randall Pogue, Orlando , FL, and Daniel Pogue, Flushing, MI. Six grandchildren. Kadie Mendez,(Benny), Battle Creek, MI, Kristin Pogue, Memphis, TN, Robert Pogue, Winter Garden, FL, Ryan Pogue, Daytona Beach, FL, Kara Pogue, Fort Liberty, NC, and Dakota Pogue, Flint, MI. Four great grandchildren, many cousins and very many friends.
She will be laid to rest in Fisher Cemetery, St, Clair, MO. A private family cemetery, where seven generations of her family are buried. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:23
