Haro (Harold) Hrant Roupinian, CLU, 91, of Troy, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. He is survived by Carol Rock Roupinian, his beloved wife of 33 years, whom he wed at St. John’s Armenian Church in Southfield, Michigan where he was a lifelong member. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Hrant and Siroon Roupinian of Thessaloniki, Greece, and his sister Seda Roupinian-Vardanyan of Yerevan, Armenia. Harold immigrated to the United States alone at 17. He was a graduate of Michigan State University where he was a proud brother of the Theta Chi fraternity and received his Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University.
Those who knew Harold will not be surprised to learn that he won many top sales awards during his 40-year career for the Prudential Life Insurance Company.
He was an active member for more than 30 years of the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club. An avid tennis player for most of his life, Harold was victorious in numerous tournaments including the USTA Senior Open with his doubles partner Paul Illich.
He is survived by his daughters Romy Roupinian of Charlotte, North Carolina and René Roupinian of New York City, her boyfriend David Goldstein whom he affectionately called Boychika, his niece Hasmik Vardanyan of Yerevan, Armenia, cousin Harry (Beverly) Tarpinian of Boca Raton, Florida, first cousins once removed Susan Boone, Ellen Perry, Patty Schimmel, Donald Mark Haynes, Amy Leonard, Haig Ariyan, Joe Ariyan, and Leon Ariyan; brother-in-law Gary Rock, sisters-in-law Nancy (Daniel) De Meyer, and Suzanne (James) Uicker; and nephews Ryan Eckert, James Martus, and Matthew (Kimberly) Martus and their two wonderful grand nephews; predeceased by Jonathan (Shereen) Martus.
Harold lived life with gusto and on his own terms. Charismatic and charming, he was always quick with a story or anecdote, which he could deliver in any of the languages he spoke: Greek, Armenian, English, and French.
