John Franklin Sherrick

John (“Jack”) Sherrick, a long-time resident of Lighthouse Point, Florida, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully Thursday, July 30, 2026 after a brief hospital stay where he spent his last hours surrounded by loved ones.

Jack was born in Valparaiso, Indiana to Rosemary Sherrick and John Ulm on June 22, 1941. At an early age he was adopted by his stepfather, Harold Sherrick, who raised him as his own along with Jack’s mother and younger brother, Rusty.

Jack went to high school in Valparaiso, where he was on the track team and went to state for the long jump, played football, and was on the wrestling team. During his college years, he attended Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Education, was one of three top students to be inducted into the Industrial Arts National Honor Society and was on the gymnastics team where he was awarded many medals at gymnastics meets. He also met his long-time love and late wife, Janeice, during his college years and they married on July 25, 1965 in Indiana. A few years later, they moved to Lighthouse Point, Florida, where they would make their home of nearly 55 years, along with their daughter, Jennie.

In his early years, Jack first worked as a drafting teacher and then industrial arts teacher for Margate Middle School for 30 years, as well as enjoyed a few ventures in real estate with his wife, where several of their seasonal tenants became good friends. He also enjoyed taking road trips with his family and friends, playing pool and the piano, and watching movies. In his later years, he was an avid Gator football fan, played on and was captain of a billiards team, was involved with the American Legion, Moose and Elks Lodges, and loved spending time with his family, especially his 3 grandchildren, who brought him so much joy and of whom he was very proud.

Jack was such a thoughtful, loving, and caring dad and grandpa, described by many as a sweet and kind person, who always wanted to make others laugh even in his final hours. The world is definitely a little less interesting without him in it, and there are no words to express how incredibly much he, his kindness, and sense of humor will be missed. A private gathering will be held by the family at a later date to honor his memory.
