John, age 89, was born in New York City, the only child of Millie and Barney Steinmuller.
John was a graduate of Salisbury (CT) School, and Colgate and Columbia Universities, followed by post graduate work at the University of Oslo in Norway. Commissioned as a Naval Officer in 1953, John was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. During that time, he met and married his wife, Rachel, in November of 1954. After leaving the Navy, the family lived in New Jersey for a few years and then moved to Pompano Beach, FL. in 1963. John worked independently for much of his life. Following their retirement, John and Rachel enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel. He is survived by his three children, Jack, Jim and Linda; daughters-in-law Ycela Maria and Marilyn; and three grandchildren, Jonathan, Elena, and Ali. A Memorial Service will be 6:30 pm Friday, September 28, 2018 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church 2500 N.E. 14th St. Causeway, Pompano Beach, Florida 33062.
