Josephine Margaret Pecaro, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and true friend, was born in New York, New York on November 30, 1923. She entered Heaven’s gate on July 11, 2018 as a result of her lifelong faith and service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Josephine moved from New York to South Florida in the mid 1950’s. She married John Pecaro Sr. who proceeded her in death. They remained married until his passing in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Roach and her husband, Kenneth Roach, her son, Robert Stringer, and his fiancé Joyce, her son the Reverend Bernard Pecaro, and his wife, Sylvia, and her son, Paul Pecaro, and his wife, Shary, and step-children, John Pecaro Jr., and Prudence Legittino, and husband, Albert. She had 9 grandchildren, and 5 greatgrandchildren. Her close friend, Sandy Tucker, and Josephine were inseparable for the last 15 years of her life.
Josephine was a homemaker until her children were grown. At the age of 52 she began a career with the Hartford Insurance Company as a receptionist, and by the time of her retirement she was employed as a legal secretary for Hartford’s legal staff counsel.
While raising her children, she was active in playing softball, bowling, and playing her favorite card game, Bridge. In her later life, she remained an avid card player, and loved watching movies on the Hallmark channel.
She attended church at St. Benedict’s Episcopal Church in Plantation, Florida from the early 1960’s until the 1990’s. She then attended St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Pompano Beach, Florida until her passing. Her activities in her church included being a member of St. Martin’s choir, president of The Daughters of the King, president of the Episcopal Church Women, and volunteered her time in the office at St. Martin’s, to assist her son, the Reverend Bernard Pecaro, up until 3 months ago.
In late June of this year, she attended her granddaughter Lauren’s, wedding in Gig Harbor, Washington, where she was surrounded by her entire family. We all agreed that this would be a moment we would always cherish. Little did we know that this would be the last time we were all together. Although she lived a wonderful 94 years, we wish we had more time with her.
Josephine faced difficulties in her life with the unwavering faith that God was always with her, and had a purpose for every moment of her life. She trusted Him. As a result, she had a spirit of love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and gentleness for all people. She truly was a servant of the Lord.
A funeral service will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 140 SE 28th Avenue, Pompano Beach, FL on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 11:00AM.
