

Reverend Mother Mary Hall Mitchell, 72, of Coral Springs, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2014. She loves God with all of her heart and soul. The Word of God was always in her mouth. She was a soul winner and she learned of God daily.
She was born to the late Willie and Maggie Smith, Nov. 18, 1941, in Bolivor, Ms. She married the late Rev. Joe L. Hall in 1958, and they lived together in Chicago, Illinois, before relocating to Mississippi in 1963. Four daughters were born to their union.
Rev. Mother Mary H. Mitchell founded Faith Revival Center, Let God Be Your Deliver in 1963 along with her husband. Their church was founded in Chesterville, Mississippi.
Rev. Mother Mary H. Mitchell received her Master in Administration and Education from Memphis University. She worked as an educator for the Shelby County Public School System for eight years. She also earned her Master of Divinity from International Theological Center in Atlanta Georgia.
Rev. Mother Mary H. Mitchell moved to Coral Springs, Florida in 1976. She was an educator for the Broward County Public School System for many years and was the Dean of Girls at Pompano Beach High School. She also taught in Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, and Tennessee; before retiring in 2004 from the Miami Dade Public Schools. She dedicated over 38 years of her life meeting the educational needs of her students. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students.
Rev. Mother Mary H. Mitchell was licensed and ordained under the AME organization in 1990 and was given her first pastorate assignment in Lake Wales, Florida. She was strong activist for the community. She was part of establishing a charter for the North Broward Chapter of NAACP and she was a precinct person in Coral Springs, Florida during the 1980’s. She was very active in the Broward County Democratic Party during the 1980’s and 1990’s. She also was the Founder of South Florida Theatre of the Performing Arts and Femme Fashions Universal Corporation a clothing line for clergywomen.
Rev. Mother Mary H. Mitchell is survived by four children: Alecia Clark (Ernest), of Margate, Florida; Dwan Word-Boyd (Earl), of Coral Springs, Florida; and Rev. Dr. Angela Deal, of Coral Springs, Florida and Rachel Austin Sumpter (Larry) of Tamarac, Florida. She was also a mother to Larry and Miriam Hall. She is survived by ten grandchildren (Tolecia Clark, Rumuelus Word, Tomonica Clark, Ricky and Keturah Deal; Remus Austin, Iesha Boyd, Brittany and Larrence Sumpter, and Dynasty Boyd) and thirteen great-grandchildren. She had one grandson Samuel Boyd who preceded her in death. She is also survived by three siblings Clara Smith, Ivan Smith and Willie Smith of Chicago. Her sister Pearl Brooks preceded her in death. She also leaves a host of family and friends.
Rev. Mother Mary H. Mitchell was a strong supporter of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, Florida. She prayed for the success of God’s plans on a daily basis. She was honored as one of the Mothers of St. James. She held a special place in the hearts of Pastor Wylie L. Howard, Sr., and First Lady Celestine Howard. They loved her so dearly. She loved the congregation of St. James. St. James was her Christian family. She loved reading, researching and ministering the Word of God. Mother loved going into the homes of the sick and shut-in to pray for them. Miracles took place in the lives of the people who received a touch from God through her obedience to prayer. Also, she enjoyed cooking special recipes, and preparing special holiday gatherings for her family.
