Stuart H. Meyerson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, at the age of 82. He was born on January 12, 1941, in the Bronx, New York, to Sylvia and Jonas Meyerson. Stuart is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret (Peg) Meyerson, his brother Michael Meyerson, his children Susan and Mark Meyerson, his daughter-in-law April Meyerson, his son-in-law Kurt Smolek (deceased), his cherished grandchildren Hayden Meyerson, Imogen Meyerson, and Andrew Smolek, and his furry walking partner Buddy.
Stuart's journey through life was marked by passion, determination, and an unwavering love for his family. He began his life in the Bronx, where he stood out as the minority player on an interracial little league baseball team. Later, he moved to Lindenhurst, New York, where he graduated from high school, excelling as a star wrestler and football player, and relishing summers spent on the water.
After graduating from Millersville State College in Pennsylvania, Stuart embarked on a career in teaching, becoming a beloved science teacher at Udall Junior High School and West Islip High School on Long Island. He was not only an educator but also a dedicated coach, guiding students in wrestling, lacrosse, and cross country running. Stuart's impact on the lives of his students extended far beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on all those he taught and mentored.
Stuart's adventurous spirit led him to the seas, where he sailed on large ships during college and later became the captain of his sailboat, the Sea Gypsy. He was also an avid diver, exploring the underwater wonders of Long Island, Florida, and the Caribbean. In his retirement years, Stuart and Peg sold their boat and embraced the freedom of the open road, traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico in their land yacht.
Throughout his life, Stuart found joy in various pursuits, including kayaking, golf, and volunteering. He shared his passion for wrestling as a volunteer wrestling coach in Broward County, FL schools, and generously contributed his time to the Fort Lauderdale Science Museum. Summers were spent at the Chautauqua Institute, where he was an active member of the Science Club, epitomizing his love for learning and exploration.
Above all else, Stuart cherished his family. He was a remarkable husband, father and grandfather, a source of endless love, guidance, and inspiration. His kindness, wisdom, and sense of adventure will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
