Alton Bruce Childs

Alton Bruce Childs, 59, of Vidor, Texas passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Alton was born September 10, 1957, in Beaumont, Texas to the late Alton Benford Childs and Betty Jo Barfield Childs.

Alton cherished his children and grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, golfing, and traveling off shore. Alton was an intelligent outgoing person with a great personality. He was also a great big giant teddy bear, with a heart of gold. Alton always put others before himself and was always there to lend them a hand. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.

Alton is survived by his wife of 20 years, Heidi Childs; children, Taylor Childs, Jessica Mulhall, and Dwan Crochet and her husband, Joe; step-mother, Dorothy Childs; mother to Jessica and Dwan, Myrna Childs; siblings, Alan Childs, Boyd Childs and his wife, Gina; Kellie Carter, Kim Neely, Karol Doughtery, and Kent McNeely. Alton also leaves behind 3 grandchildren; 12 nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends to cherish his memories.

A gathering of friends and relatives will be held Friday, July 21, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th St., Port Arthur, TX. A Celebration of Mr. Childs’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers are Chase Childs, Christopher Childs, Bo Childs, Blake Childs, James Wood and Matt Josephson. Interment to be held at a later day.
