Antonio "Tony" Serafin Conde

Antonio “Tony” Serafin Conde, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 5, after a long battle with liver cancer at his home in Katy, Texas. A native of Spain, he was a retired business manager of many years of an assisted living facility in Katy and had lived and worked many years in the Houston area.

He is survived by his longtime companion Nancy; her daughter Cecile; and his four brothers, Manuel Conde, of Nederland, TX; Francisco Conde, of Frisco, TX; and Louis Conde and John Conde, both of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Benedicta Picans Conde, who died at 103 on April 1, 2026, and by his father, Casimiro Conde, who died in 1973.

A native of La Estrada, Pontevedra province, Galicia region of northwest Spain, Tony migrated at age two with his mother, then 37, and brother Manuel, then 7, from northwest Spain to Galveston, Texas to become reunited with his father, Casimiro, in Galveston, Texas,

His father, who was born next door to his mother in a mountain hamlet of northwest Spain and immigrated to the USA in 1939, was a marine engineer for Texaco Marine, Inc. aboard steamships carrying refined petroleum products from Port Arthur, Texas to U.S. Gulf Coast and East Coast cities. After Tony, his Mother and three of her sons survived the disaster in Galveston of Hurricane Carla on Sept. 11, 1961, the family moved permanently to Port Arthur, where his ship was based at the Port Arthur Texaco crude oil refinery.

Tony grew up with his brothers in Port Arthur and graduated like them from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1975. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After college he worked as a business manager for several retail stores, including a national jewelry retail chain and an early wholesale leader in the personal computer hardware and software business, which took him to Dallas for a few years.

But he returned to Houston and from there loved to travel, in particular to Galveston Island, where he fondly remembered his earliest memories as a child. He took trips several times to his native Galicia region, Spain. Outside of his mother and brothers, the rest of a large, extended family remained in Spain.

He loved to travel and to play golf, which he did on trips to Europe, across the U.S., including in southern California on trips to visit his two youngest brothers, and in northern California. Other trips took him to Russia, Germany, and Scandinavia as well as to the Philippine Islands, the homeland of his Nancy.

Tony was very bright, inquisitive and creative and anything he turned his intelligence to he soon mastered. In high school he chose to study autobody repair and auto painting under a local legend custom car builder. In short order he applied his perfectionist trait to those skills. At age 18 he painted his brother’s muscle car, repaired and painted his own 1971 Pontiac Gran Prix to better than showroom standards. His auto painting involved meticulous surface preparation and applying primers, base coats, and clear coats to better than factory finishes.

He had a very sharp business mind and was an excellent stock market investment researcher and analyst. Over the years, his knowledge and wisdom proved an outstanding help to his mother and each of his brothers. He was the business counselor his mother had hoped for.

Tony contributed to his mother’s proudest moment, when she was recognized by Lamar University in the 1980s as then being the mother who set the record with five for most children graduated from the university

Visitation for Tony will be held at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th St, Port Arthur, Texas 77642, on July 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Committal Service will be held at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th Street, Port Arthur, TX 77642, US, on July 9, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be Manuel Conde, John Conde, Francisco Conde, Enrique Garza, Jerry Rostelli, Bryce Conde, Gavin Garza, and Jaxon Wofford.
