Gilbert Garcia, born on October 29, 1949, in Port Arthur, Texas, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of music, laughter, and love. He was the beloved husband of Kathy Garcia for 26 years, cherished father of Wayne and LeAnn, and a proud grandfather to Carson, Maddox, and Jaselyn.
Gilbert grew up in Port Arthur and attended Thomas Jefferson High School, As a kid and young adult, Gilbert was a force to be reckoned with—literally. Never shying away from protecting his family. He was the son of Mary and Ernest Garcia, and brothers Ernest Garcia James and Ernest Garcia Jr, all of whom have gone before him. He is survived by his sisters, Delores Flores and Cynthia Robledo, as well as many nieces and nephews, who will always carry with them the memories of Gilbert's humor and warmth.
Gilbert had a gift that was hard to miss – music. A talented musician who could pick up just about any instrument whether he was strumming a guitar or playing the drums,… he could make it sing. He played in bands throughout his life, bringing joy to anyone lucky enough to hear him. His love for music was surpassed only by his love for making people laugh.
No serious occasion was safe when Gilbert was around. If you ever found yourself sitting next to him at a wedding, a funeral, or church, you were in for a test of willpower—because he'd have you laughing when you were least supposed to.
Beyond music and jokes, Gilbert had a few other loves: wrestling, westerns, Texas A&M Aggies. and Walker Texas Ranger.
Gilbert’s life wasn’t just about fun, though. He was a hardworking millwright and a proud union man for many years, dedicating himself to his craft with the same energy he brought to everything he did.
Gilbert’s Catholic faith was central to his life, however he lived it with an infectious joy that reminded us all that spirituality and humor could walk hand in hand. He touched many lives with his warmth and kindness, always making sure that those around him felt loved.
Gilbert’s memory will live on in the hearts of many. They will always remember his jokes, his music, his laughter, and the way he could light up a room just by walking in.
In true Gilbert fashion, we imagine he's already started a new band in heaven, cracking jokes and making sure no one's too serious up there. Rest in peace, Dad (Grandpa, brother, uncle)—you will be missed, but your laughter and music will echo forever.
