James was born on June 22, 1939, in Belton, Kentucky to Pauline and Karl Sampson. Known to many as “Sam”, Sam and his family had lived in Port Arthur for over 45 years.
Sam served with the U.S. Army within the 101 Airborne. They were known as the “Screaming Eagles”. A specialized Division of the Army where he trained for air assault operations. Afterwards, he spent many years as a painter and sand blaster traveling around the world. He later used his expertise to start his own company as a certified paint inspector. He loved sailboats, traveling, along with tinkering and fixing things. There wasn’t a small engine he couldn’t work on. He loved spending time with his family and helping others around him.
