She had recently celebrated her 85th birthday.
Janis graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and later married R. D. Latimer and they lived and raised their daughters in Port Arthur.
R. D. passed away in 1994, and Janis and her daughter Tammy relocated to Spring, Texas a few years later to be closer to family.
Janis was a loving and caring daughter, wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She set a wonderful example of an amazing homemaker and mother for her daughters.
Janis loved dancing in her younger years. She loved to sew when her daughters were young. She played the piano. She volunteered at her daughters’ elementary school.
She was also an amazing cook and dinner was always served at 5:00. She enjoyed listening to country music and in her later years, she enjoyed opera as well.
Janis loved her family pets throughout the years including her ‘perfect dog’ Chuy and bird Zoe. She is missed dearly now by her dog Chico, her cat Gustopher, and her bird BeBe.
Janis loved to garden and had many beautiful flowers throughout her years. Her favorites were knock-out roses. In her last few years when she could no longer walk and take care of her plants and flowers, her favorite hobby was working jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed playing on her cell phone and iPad, and of course, spending much time with her family.
Janis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Arnold ‘Sonny’ and Jerry, and her son-in-law Tim.
Survivors include her daughters Janet, Kimberly (Michael) and Tammy and her grandchildren Jesse, Rachael (Dan), Zachary, Moriah, Callen, and Madelyn and great-grandchildren Meridian and Elowen.
Janis will always be remembered for her sweet, kind, loving and nurturing heart and her big beautiful smile. She spoke quietly and was a wonderful listener. She will be dearly missed by all whom adored her.
She was truly the best and we are so blessed to call her our Mom, Momma and Mawmaw.
We love you more!
