

Josephine Hernandez, 96, of Port Arthur, died a peaceful death surrounded by her family Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Cypress Glenn East. She was born on January 18, 1915, in Brackettville, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur. Josephine was a devoted Catholic and an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur and a charter member of Las Damas Guadalupanas. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
A gathering of her family and friends will be held Friday, November 11, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7:30p.m. at Grammier – Oberle Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, under the direction of Grammier – Oberle Funeral Home.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 60 years Antonio Hernandez, and two grandchildren, Julie and Michael Greig, a brother Julius Villareal and a sister Dora Garcia.
She is survived by her two daughters, Yolanda Holt and her husband Bill of Richmond, Virginia, Leticia “Tish” Greig and her husband John of Nederland, four sisters, Olga DeLeon , Vi Hernandez, Helen Hammons and Sylvia Medina, four grandchildren, Janel Greig, Leslie Jefferson, Karen Clark and Tony Holt, seven great grandchildren and a great great grandson.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at Cypress Glenn East and Odyssey Hospice.
