Lilly’s devotion to family and to doing what was right showed itself in the way she championed education. She consistently impressed upon her children and grandchildren the importance of learning, and she took special care to help her grandchildren with their schoolwork, offering patience, encouragement, and the steady belief that they could do more than they imagined.
She served others through her work as a home health nurse, a role she truly loved because it allowed her to help people in meaningful, everyday ways.
Lilly was married for 21 years to Arthur Edward Jupiter Jr. She converted to Catholicism when she married her late husband and became a devoted Catholic thereafter, ensuring her children were raised in the Catholic faith. Her faith was not merely practiced,it was lived, shaping her priorities and strengthening her resolve through every season.
In her personal life, Lilly found joy in the written word and in the comforts of home. She was an avid reader who loved to write, especially poetry, and she even won awards for her writing. She also enjoyed watching the soap opera *Young and the Restless*. She took pride in her house plants, as well as a rose bush and a magnolia tree, all living reminders of the care and attention she so naturally gave to others.
To those who knew her best, Lilly was the life of the party and always straightforward, honest, clear, and genuine. She loved her family deeply and expressed that love in countless ways, especially through cooking. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday because it gave her the chance to prepare a meal for those she cherished. She was also known for helping those in need, no matter what, offering support with a generosity that asked for nothing in return.
Lilly was preceded in death by her father, Emanuel Preston; her mother, Gertrude Preston; her twin sister, Lelia Sims; and her brother, Herman Turner.
She is survived by her brother, Emanuel Preston JR; her sisters, Elizabeth Sharp and Cassie Como; her sons, Damien Preston, Arthur Edward Jupiter III, and John Emanuel Jupiter; her daughter, Auzrea Egbetola; and her grandchildren, Mercedes J.
