Marie Barnett, 88, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, in Livingston, TX. She was born April 3, 1932, in Port Arthur, TX to Charles & Mary Arisco. Marie loved and was beloved by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Barnett of Groves, TX, and her granddaughter, Karen Marie Barnett of College Station, TX. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Joseph P. Arisco of Groves and her four sons and their wives – Robert and Charlotte of Livingston, TX; David and Michelle of Colorado Springs, CO; Michael and Anne of Round Rock, TX; Ben and Nancy of Houston, TX. She also had nine grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marie graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur in 1950, and she earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Texas in 1954 and a Master of Education in Supervision from Lamar University of Beaumont in 1985. She worked as a teacher in Port Neches ISD for many years.

Visitation will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur, followed by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:30. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.

I remember this lovely lady when I was a student at PNMS where she was Mrs. Barnett, fast forward years later and I got to know her as Sister. She was always so kind and gentle. What a blessing to our family!

I have many fond memories of my dear friend Marie. We worked together at Port Neches Middle School where we became close friends and I was honored to be included in numerous family gatherings. I’m so very saddened to learn of Marie’s passing and offer my sincerest condolences to Bob, David, Michael and Ben as well as all their families and her brother Dr. Joe Arisco.
