Mary Katherine Ashy, 81, passed away on November 14, 2012 in Port Arthur, TX. She was born to Grover and Katherine Vidrine in Beaumont, TX on November 17, 1930, during her father's stint in Texas as the French Consulate from Louisiana. Mary Katherine was raised in Oakdale, LA, and attended Louisiana State University where she majored in Art. She moved to Port Arthur for a teaching job and met her beloved husband, Dr. Fred Peter Ashy. They married in 1957.
Mary Katherine is preceded in death by her husband in 2003, and her brother, Remie Vidrine, in 2008. She is survived by her children, Marianne Davis (Dr. Tommy Davis); her son, Peter; Yvonne Bena (Mr. John Bena); Helen Adams (Mr. Eric Adams); and Elizabeth Breed (Mr. Carter Breed). She was blessed with many loving grandchildren: Madeleine (22); Katherine (19); Jacqueleine (18); Thomas (15); Olivia (18); Lily (3); Ellie (15); Abigail (11); Mary Katherine (7); and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Yvonne Pharr (Mr. William Pharr) and her brother, Viard Vidrine.
"Mary Kay" was an avid bridge player for almost her entire life, and had many wonderful friends and bridge partners that she loved dearly. She had a passion for reading, loved her crossword puzzles, and the Wall Street Journal. In her younger years, she lent her artistic talents to the community on a number of charity projects for the Port Arthur Service League. In recent years, she volunteered at the Gulf Coast Museum. Mary Kay was a parishioner at St. Catherine's Catholic Church and was active in the Altar Society and choir.
Most of all, Mary Kay will be remembered by all of us as model of grace and kindness and she will be deeply missed.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home.
