Mary J Trevino

Born in Port Arthur, Texas on March 31, 1924, where

she spent her early years. Graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School,

she enlisted in 1944 the U. S. Women Army Corp (WAC’s). During her time in

service she and others member of the military were invited to Shangri La, now

known as Camp David to dine with Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt. Toward the

end of the war, Mary ‘s unit was sent to San Francisco as part of her

time there, her unit was assigned to meet the incoming ships of wounded.

While in San Francisco, she married her hometown sweetheart Benito Trevino

who was also stationed in California.

She was honorably discharged, returning to Port Arthur. Mary and Benny went

on to have five children. She was intelligent, stubborn,sassy and a strong

woman. After WWll she attended Port Arthur Business College and Mim’s

Beauty School. Later opening and operating her own beauty salon for numerous

years.

Mary spent most of her life in Groves, as the empty nest years approached, she

changed paths by attending Lamar University as a nursing student. Upon

graduation worked as a nurse at Doctors Hospital and later for St. Mary's

Hospital. Mary was adventurous and loved to travel. She went on many cruises

with her family. One of her other trips was to the Holy Lands.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, husband Benito, son Marcus Trevino

and daughter Gloria Marks.

Mary “Henie” is survived by her sister Mary Silva,daughters, Carrie Dyson-Shea and Zoila Walter, husband Darrel, son Edward, Trevino, wife Sherry, grandchildren Dianna Sutton, Kenneth Marks Jr.,

Paula Watts, Rene Dyson Scott, Toni Dyson Bond, Rosanne Borque, Sarah Walter, Madison Trevino, Ashton Trevino, Derek Trevino, Dustin Trevino and numerous great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place March 24th, at 5pm at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Elizabeth's Church in Port Neches, TX. Burial to follow at Oak Bluff Cemetery.
